Soap by Jo would never have existed if I hadn’t got sick a few years ago. I had been making soap for a while and I was loving being able create something that was a blend of science and art. When I got sick, I couldn’t stand long enough or move fast enough to make a block of soap. For those of you who have never made cold process soap, it takes around 2-3 hours to make a relatively simple recipe, followed by 4 to 6 weeks of drying time.

As I was missing making soap, I went searching for something that I could work on sitting at the kitchen table using all of the beautiful oils and botanicals that I had purchased to make soap with. I started out making bath bombs and bath salts for Xmas presents, then progressed to body butters and finally to lotions and creams. I enjoyed creating and had finally found something that I enjoyed making as much as soap. The more I made, the more I wanted to make, and I set about trying to recreate luxury beauty products using all natural ingredients. This isn’t always easy and I spend lots of time researching, trialing and testing to make products that act and feel like their synthetic counterparts.

All my ingredients are sourced from Australian suppliers, and wherever possible, they are certified organic. I also regularly raid gardens to pick the freshest of botanicals. All products are hand crafted in our home in Oxley, Brisbane.

Soap was the first body product that I worked with. Making cold process soap is a mix of science and art. I have always had a love of science, but art does not come naturally. So my soaps are a work of love. They are at times a little rustic, but they are made with quality oils and butters that make a beautiful bar of soap.
